- Official language - Creole

 

- Poorest country in the Western Hemisphere

 

- 80% of Haitians languish in poverty and hopelessness.

 

- Average person lives on less than $2/day ($610/year)

 

- Over 50% unemployment rate.

 

- 50% of people over the age of 15 are illiterate

 

- 38,000 children under age 5 die every year (Malnutrition).

 

- 50% of children die by the age of  5

 

- 16,000 lives lost yearly due to Aids

 

- Life expectancy is a mere 47.6 years.

 

- 25% of people have access to clean water

 

- 50% of the population is under the age of 18

 

- 30% of Haiti’s income comes through foreign aid.
